Weaving/Embroidery

A popular handicraft of the Han and minority tribes of China, the art of weaving and embroidery dates back to over 3,000 years ago, and is a traditional needlework past-time practiced by Chinese women. Their remains have been found in ancient tombs during the Warring States period in China. Patterns generally consist of geometric forms or flora and fauna. Weaving and embroidery are used in household items like pillow cases, tablecloths, hats and shoes. They are also used in religious objects and decorative items in temples and royal palaces. China's best embroidery works can be found in Suzhou, Hunan, Guangdong and Sichuan, popularly known as the "four famous embroidery schools".
