Seal Carving

Seal carving is a traditional folk craft of the Han tribe in China that has been passed down to the present day. The artisan uses his creativity to incorporate Chinese characters, calligraphy and pictorial, engraving them onto materials such as stone, jade, wood and bone. The script used (generally seal characters) are written out first before they are carved, and the end product is a symbol of status and power.
